(1965, Anamorphic Widescreen) Heinz Drache, Barbara Rütting, Brigitte Horney, Klaus Kinski, Margot Trooger. In this 1965 sequel to the previous year’s The Mysterious Magician, the elusive master-criminal "The Ringer," is forced out of retirement when his distinctive calling card is found at a London murder scene. Realizing he is being framed for the murder of a famed British lord, the Ringer returns to England to—in his own unique way—expose the true killer. As the rest of the murdered lord’s family is targeted in a plot involving a vast inheritance, a tough Scotland Yard Inspector (Heinz Drache) finds himself in the awkward position of more or less collaborating with the Ringer to unravel the conspiracy. Like so many of the good German Edgar Wallace films of the ’60s, this enjoyable EW romp maintains the usual Krimi atmosphere with a complex web of suspects, including a sinister butler played by Klaus Kinski. Watch for the chaotic showdown involving a menagerie of circus animals and a dramatic revelation of the unseen mastermind.. Upgraded from a beautiful 35mm print.
