(1930) Richard Arlen, Fay Wray, Eugene Pallette, Robert Gleckler. A terrific early adventure thriller from Paramount! Arlen, Wray and Palette are chased across the ocean by Gleckler and his gang as they race for an island whose shores are known to be swollen with priceless pearls. There’s just one problem…the island is infested with cannibals! But when Arlen (in his deep-sea diving suit) is perceived to be a God by the natives, this seems to calm the waters and prevents them from becoming a hot lunch for the savages. Wray is drop-dead gorgeous and even has a King Kong warm-up scene where she is jostled about by the natives. The on-screen chemistry between her and Arlen is quiet good and Gleckler shines as the gangster who’ll stop at nothing to get the beautiful Fay in his clutches. From a very nice 16mm original print.
