(1951) Mario Soffici, José Cibrián, Martha Atoche, Ana María Campoy, Rudolpho Crespi, Gloria Fernandiz. This forgotten horror gem is regarded as a classic of Argentinean horror films (6.6 on IMDB). Although it is set in modern times, the dark streets of Buenos Aires serve the film well as Soffici, in the title role, experiments with the good and evil in men, using a chemical formula that turns him (Jekyll) into the monstrous Edward Hyde. Hyde eventually commits the brutal murder of a prostitute at a brothel. Based on the classic tale by Robert Louis Stevenson, this adaptation strays a bit, adding a sequence where Jekyll marries and has a son, only to find himself transforming into Hyde while playing with the child. He soon comes to the horrible realization that the Hyde character will take over his personality completely. This is a cool movie, extremely well-done. From 35mm.
