Horror SEVEN FOOTPRINTS TO SATAN

(1929) Creighton Hale, Thelma Todd, Sheldon Lewis, William V. Mong, Laska Winter, Nora Cecil, DeWitt Jennings, Angelo Rossitto. SEVEN FOOTPRINTS TO SATAN is truly one of the best horror films of the 1920s.  There are a number of other home video releases of this film on DVD and Blu-ray, and while we mean no disrespect to their efforts, we sincerely believe the Sinister Cinema edition is the best on the market today.  Our release of this film is unique for numerous reasons.  First, We have created new opening titles that are as much like an original Warner Brothers title layout as possible.  Our manager, Mo, did a heck of a job on this.  We also restored it to its original 59-60 minute run time (it just plays better at this speed).  In addition, we created a new vintage orchestral music score using original recordings from numerous late ‘20s films, including a substantial amount of music from two lost films for which the Vitaphone discs still exist:  THE TERROR (1929) and THE HAUNTED HOUSE (1928).  We also added a variety of sound effects.  In short, we tried to get SEVEN FOOTPRINTS TO SATAN to look and sound like what it might have actually looked like when it was released back in 1929.  We even added our own color tints through many sections of the film.  This is undoubtedly the best looking video copy around; we did an intense restoration of the video master from the Cineteca Italiana print.  All fans of classic horror films will want to check this title out.  It's one of the wildest horror films ever made and features probably more monstrous creatures than any other film from the golden age of cinema.  There are plenty of terrifying scenes, complimented by incredible gothic sets and wonderful cinematography.  Hale and Todd are wonderful as a betrothed couple that is whisked away in a steel-plated car and forced into the darkened passageways of a mysterious mansion filled with human and bestial monstrosities, including a witch, a crazed doctor, a werewolfish professor, a sinister dwarf, killer gorillas, and more.  They are confronted by “Satan,” the master of the house, who gives Hale the challenge of the “Seven steps of the stairway of Satan.”  This horror classic begins like an Edgar Wallace terror-crime film, then slowly evolves into the stuff that your most horrific nightmares are made of.  There are many great moments.  Way, WAY cool.  B&W with tinted sections. From 35mm
