(1932) Jerry Verno, Anthony Holles, Edgar Norfolk, Philip Durant, Sybil Grove Verno plays a bemused office clerk who has grand ideas about his future. He’s caught play acting in front of his boss’s mirror and is loudly reprimanded. Concurrently, a convicted jewel thief is released from prison and tailed by the police in the hope of him leading them to a cache of stolen pearls, hidden away many years before. Coincidentally enough, Verno receives notice of his rich uncle’s death and that he has inherited the swanky Hotel Splendide, which was built right on the spot where the pearls are buried. This makes for some interesting plot twists for sure. There’s a bit of tongue-in-cheek in this entertaining British crime film. Pretty good for an early talkie. From a gorgeous 35mm print.
