(1961, Anamorphic Widescreen) Bruce Bennett, Robert Bray, Tania Velia, Ralphie Rodriguez, Milton Steifel. Bennett plays a sadistic landowner on a remote island who rules over his subjects with a stinging bullwhip. His island empire begins to fall apart, though, with the arrival of a stunningly beautiful exotic dancer. Bennett, who was usually an even-handed actor throughout his long career, went bonkers with his performance. He’s a sick, totally nuts, depraved monster who barks out commands and cracks his whip at everybody and everything, often laughing like a 1930s horror movie mad scientist. Wow… Don’t get us wrong, Fiend of Dope Island is pretty terrible, yet it’s a very good “bad movie,” filled with outrageous, over-the-top performances, emitting a sick attraction that will keep you watching all the way through—a key ingredient to any successful exploitation film. From 35mm and presented in its original 1.66 widescreen format.
