(1959) Anthony Farrar-Hockley, Wilfrid Brambell, Ray Brooks, Mark Eden, Gerald Flood. This is a very grim tale about a group of British POWs, held by the communist forces in North Korea during the Korean war of the 1950s. It deals with a small prison encampment. The prisoners there expect to be treated under the rules laid down by the Geneva Convention but are forced to endure many unexpected physical and mental tortures from the North Koreans The enemy’s aim? Degrade and break the Brits’ morale and convert them to Communism. There are many intense, well-acted scenes and the viewer cannot help feeling a profound sense of helplessness. Captured is a riveting film and It’s depiction of the mental cruelty inflicted by the Koreans is very sobering indeed. From 35mm.
