(1936) Pierre Fresnay, Danièle Parola, Michel Simon, Jacques Coopeau, Pierre Renoir. This is a grand film about political turmoil in 19th century Russia. Fresnay plays a young student preparing for a long career working in the Czarist government. His life is thrown into turmoil though, when he unintentionally becomes involved in the slaying of a government official. Through a strange series of events he soon becomes a fugitive in real life and from his own ideals. A solid action drama with a fine cast. Did Fresnay ever make a bad movie? Aka Razumov: Sous Les Yeux D’occident. In French with English subtitles. From 35mm.
