Von Stroheim is a financially ruined European prince whose royal family gives him the ultimatum—marry into wealth or shoot himself! Wray is a Viennese innkeeper’s daughter who is promised in marriage to a local butcher! By chance Erich and Fay meet during a parade, after which they fall in love—much to the chagrin of their parents. It’s a tale of intrigue, unfulfilled love, turmoil, and adventure. Wray and von Stroheim make one of the oddest couples ever, but their onscreen chemistry is undeniable. Betz is wonderful as the nefarious cur to whom Wray is promised to in marriage.
