(1962, Anamorphic Edition) Pascale Petit, Gordon Scott, George Ardisson, Rik Battaglia. This sword and sandal opus covers the early life of Cleopatra. It chronicles the power struggles with her brother, her courtiers, her generals, and lastly, the Roman Empire. Petit is dazzling as Cleopatra, who finds herself at the mercy of various male characters. Scott, who makes his appearance in the final third of the film, is a distinguished looking Caesar (they even add some gray to his hair. All in all an enjoyable prequel to the Elizabeth Taylor-Richard Burton epic that would follow a year later. Gorgeous color, from 35mm.
