THE GHOST’S ROYALTY (1965) Stéphane Fey, François Vibert, Marie Laforêt, Reine Courtois, Michael Lonsdale.  In a small 1800s Massachusetts town, a student of theology becomes fascinated with a dilapidated old country mansion.  He soon learns the place is haunted by the ghost of a beautiful young woman, whose father was responsible for her death.  An arrangement has been made, though, between the ghost and the father whereby he is banned from the house in return for a ghost royalty, paid to him four times a year.  This wonderful B&W gothic Euro-chiller is largely overlooked by horror film historians.  It is filled with exquisitely acted scenes and atmospheric moments of underlying dread. Based Henry James’ classic ghost story, “The Ghostly Rental.” In French with English subtitles. From 35mm.

BLOODY PLEASURE (1965, Anamorphic Widescreen) Alberto Candeau, Eduardo Muñoz, Ricardo Bauleo, Gloria Pratt.  A masked maniac prowls the beaches of Argentina.  He captures beautiful girls, takes them back to his lair, and injects them with dope. This is when things get very weird. He then plays some freaky-sounding organ music to turn them into his zombie slaves.  We won’t tell you what he does to them, but it isn’t pretty.  There are some cringe-worthy moments involving hypodermic needles and there are numerous shock scenes.  This gritty south of the border chiller may be ultra-low budget but it’s most engaging for its overall weirdness and brooding sense of impending horror.  Aka The Deadly Organ.  B&W, 35mm.
