WARNING FROM SPACE (1956) Toyomi Karita, Keizo Kawasaki, Bin Yagisawa, Shozo Nanbu. Flying saucers are seen over Tokyo. A spaceship full of starfish-shaped aliens has come to Earth to warn of impending destruction from a giant meteor. However, because of their horrifying appearance the aliens decide to transform one of their crew into a beautiful human female, who then infiltrates human society. As the meteor approaches, the Earth becomes hotter and hotter. Can she help humanity to build an anti-meteor weapon in time? Good special effects highlight this fine Japanese sci-fi epic. ROAD TO THE STARS (1957) Georgi Solovyov, directed by Pavel Klushantsev. A landmark space film from the man who gave us Planet of Storms. The first half of this film has some very interesting stuff about the soviet space program. However, in the second half, the film turns to pure science fiction, with many great outer space scenes of rockets, space stations, moon landings, and astronauts in space. There are some amazing shots of miniatures and other special effects. A true must for space opera fans. English subtitles. Beautiful color, from 35mm.
