Disc one features INGAGI, a notorious docu-drama of Forgotten Horrors fame. An expedition enters the Congo jungle to investigate reports of a gorilla-worshipping tribe. After facing many perils, they come upon the tribe and witness a virgin being sacrificed to a monstrous gorilla, who carries her off, purportedly for cross-breed mating. The expedition follows the beast in an attempt to save the woman. Can they save her?! Ingagi is an odd film. It incorporated newly shot footage with older footage from a 1915 silent film. It made millions when first released. We’ve never been crazy about the film’s original sepia tones (for which there were variations from print to print), so we’ve included a glorious B&W edition (which looks sooo much better), as well as the tinted version. From 35mm. Disc two features SON OF INGAGI, which is a sequel in name only. It’s a full-blooded horror film about a lady mad scientist and her killer ape-man, who’s kept locked up in the cellar of a newlywed couple’s house. The monster makeup is crude, but somehow it works. Our video master (which has been copied by everybody) was transferred from the only known 16mm print of this film many years ago, so we’ve gone back and cleaned it up. The light levels are better and the borders have been properly adjusted. BONUS FEATURE: THE DEVIL’S DAUGHTER (1939, Nina Mae McKinney, Jack Carter). This is the tale of two sisters, one good, one evil. The evil sister resorts to voodoo in a clash over the rights to an aging Jamaican estate. The good sister is drugged and subjected to a blood dance ritual. The bad sister recites the death incantation over her! This all-black chiller was also featured in a later Forgotten Horrors volume.
