(1952) John Bentley, Patricia Dainton, John Robinson, Valentine Dyall, Lockwood West. Bentley is the Toff, a “Saint” style detective who falls upon a sinister plot while on a train. It seems that a criminal known as “the Hammer” is looking to steal a secret formula for a new lightweight metal alloy that’s tougher than steel. Dainton’s uncle is the inventor and is murdered by the gang. The Toff then spends the rest of the film trying to track down the criminals. Dainton (who’s as cute as a bug) tags along with him. Things end up in an abandoned windmill in the black of the night where Dainton is being held captive. Good fun. From 35mm.
