(1961, Anamorphic Widescreen) Rossana Podestà, Guy Madison, Mario Petri, Giacomo Rossi Stuart. This lively peplum classic takes place during the time of Julius Caesar's incursion against the Gauls, who have broken their treaty with Rome. The Gauls are a pretty barbaric bunch and Madison plays a Roman soldier sent in to tame them. However, in the usual turn of events, he finds himself falling in love with the beautiful Podestà, who’s the daughter of one of the Gaul leaders. Will she be loyal to her kind, or will she throw in with the Romans? This is a nicely mounted, highly enjoyable epic film with lots of swords clashing and arrows flying, all complimented by great cinematography and a fine music score. There’s a really cool scene involving a collapsing bridge. Cool. Excellent color, from 35mm.
