SCREAM OF THE BUTTERFLY (1965, Anamorphic) Nélida Lobato, Nick Novarro, Richard Beebe, Robert Miller, John Richards. An excellent example of the kind of gritty, sleazy, exploitation-crime films that poured out of the 1960s. Featured here is South American beauty Lobato in her only starring American movie. She has possibly the most lustful countenance of any screen actress ever. Her demeanor simply reeks with wanton sexuality. She plays a two-timing hussy who falls into crime and murder. Nélida also has several nude bathtub and bikini scenes that apparently were shot to show off her radiant beauty. 35mm.
THE DEFILERS (1965, Anamorphic) Byron Mabe, Jerome Eden, Mai Jansson. This seedy, grungy David Friedman film is about a couple of hoodlums who kidnap a young girl and keep her in the cellar of a deserted warehouse where they subject her to all kinds of mental, physical, and sexual mistreatment. For being such a low budget affair it is riveting and well made. Mabe and Eden—two fringe Hollywood actors—turn in very good performances. Friedman knew how to make ‘em. Disturbing in many ways. It would undoubtedly be rated R. 35mm.
