(1927) Janet Gaynor, Charles Farrell, Albert Gran, David Butler. One of the truly great silent films. Farrell, as Chico, is a Paris sewer worker who falls in with Diane (Gaynor), a prostitute in reputation only, but still a target of the French police. Chico saves her by posing as her husband. Then war breaks out and Chico marches off to his destiny. The ending of this film will rip your heart out. Remade ten years later with Jimmy Stewart. Winner of several Oscars, including Best Director and Best Actress (Gaynor). Original Movietone music score and effects. 35mm.
