(1958) Anita Björk, Annalisa Ericson, Karl-Arne Holmsten, Sven Lindberg. This is a largely forgotten horror-mystery-chiller from Sweden—and it’s a good one. A woman is seen wandering about outside a gloomy country manor in the dark of the night. She screams and meets her doom! A detective and his wife then head for the manor to solve the mystery. They meet an assortment of wily characters, any one of which might be the guilty party. But they soon discover the consensus of guests believe the killer is a supernatural being. They hear tales of a murderous ghost called “The Lady in Black.” Is the killer human or a truly supernatural creature? There are many creepy scenes in this well-made B&W Euro-chiller that has one helluva twist ending. We offer The Lady in Black with English subtitles for the first time. 35mm.
