(1959) Ewald Balser, Wolfgang Preiss, Barbara Rütting, Cornell Borchers, Wolfgang Kieling, Karin Baal. Balser is a mad scientist conducting weird transplant experiments in the lab at his secluded chateau. Preiss is the doctor he lures into helping him, not realizing the cadavers used in the good professor's procedures are more than just “corpses.” This is an excellent medical science fiction thriller with lots of cool lab scenes, a great script, and top-of-the-line performances, especially by Balser as the crazed doctor and Kieling as his crippled-Nazi extremist-assistant. The scene where Keiling stumbles across a swamp on his crippled leg, trying to elude the police, is very memorable. A great little film. AKA Doctor Without Scruples.
