(1950) Rade Markovic, Vera Ilic-Djukic, Milivoje Zivanovic, Marko Marinkovic. Here’s another upper tier Euro-fantasy classic you’ll not soon forget. It’s filled with incredible sets, wonderful characters, beautiful music, great B&W cinematography, etc. All in all it’s a delightfully atmospheric film. The scene is set quickly as a young boy stumbles into a crumbling, snow-covered castle atop a mountain spire, laden with skulls and cobwebs. Inside he unwittingly frees a monstrous creature called Evil Bas-Celik, Years later, the Evil one has stolen the boy’s (now a man) beautiful bride and proclaimed himself emperor. To save his bride and his people, the young hero must go through a series of adventures to gain possession of a magic sword, which is the only way to slay his oppressor. His exploits are great fun and the final battle scene and duel to the death are quite exciting. If you have any appreciation for epic fantasy you need to see this cool film. With English subtitles. 35mm.
