(1926) John Barrymore, Jane Winton, John Roche, Warner Oland. Recognized as one of the great silent swashbucklers, Don Juan is filled with grandiose action and devil-may-care characters. As silent films go it’s a real wow. Barrymore may not have been quite at Doug Fairbanks’ level when it came to films like this, but he more than rises to the occasion in this spirited retelling of the Don Juan legend. There are many great scenes and the film is helped greatly by its original Vitaphone synchronized music score and sound effects. Way cool. From 35mm.
