Horror MESSIAH OF EVIL—Anamorphic Widescreen

(1973, Anamorphic Widescreen) Marianna Hill, Michael Greer, Elisha Cook, Jr., Joy Bang, Royal Dano, Anitra Ford.  This is one of the most underrated horror films of the 1970s.  It contains the best elements of both Carnival of Souls and Night of the Living Dead.  A young woman comes to an out-of-the-way California coastal town searching for her missing father.  She runs into a trio of swingers who stay with her at her father’s deserted house.  Together they soon discover that the town is being taken over by an ever growing band of flesh eating zombies.  The movie theater scene is incredibly effective, as is the supermarket scene.  In spite of the low budget this is a well done, SCARY movie with many terrifying moments.  It’s loaded with a feeling of dread and impending doom.  Wow.  Great color, 35mm.
