(1970, Anamorphic Widescreen) Philippe Lemaire, Anny Duperey, Olivia Robin, Elizabeth Teissier. Lemaire plays a famed artist who lives in a crumbling old castle. In a confrontation with one of his past girlfriends, his beautiful young wife is burned almost beyond recognition. Now a horribly scarred monstrosity, she begs him for a new face. The answer comes in the form of Howard Vernon, who plays a defamed plastic surgeon and now operates on criminals on the sly. When threatened with blackmail, Vernon agrees to restore her face, but it means the killing of the “donor.” Young women are kidnapped by Lemaire and his twisted dwarf servants. But when the sister of one of the victims comes calling, things get very horrific. The final ten minutes of this Euro-shocker are very intense indeed. There are many scenes of nudity and disturbing violence. Beautiful color, from 35mm.
