(1962) Nils Asther, Anita Björk, Jan Malmsjö, Karl-Arne Homsten, Sif Ruud, Lena Granhagen.  What a great, forgotten chiller!  The setting is a creepy country manor.  After being practically disowned by her late stepfather during the reading of his will, a young woman wades into a misty swamp and sinks down into the slime—suicide.  Her brother, also disinherited, returns to the manor, which is now occupied by his evil stepmother and her beautiful daughter.  Did his sister really commit suicide or is there something sinister afoot?  Things get horrific when the ghost of his sister (whose face is ghastly!) is seen prowling the grounds and playing her ghostly harpsicord in the dark of the night.  When a grisly murder occurs in the music room, it’s clear the ghost is the killer.  Who will be next?  The manor is filled with all kinds of slinking, scheming characters, all of whom have nefarious secrets and motives.  Nils (Night Monster) Asther is terrific as the strange doctor whose interest in hypnotism is far more sinister than it seems.  There’s a great scene with a ghoulish-looking dummy that will make you jump.  A really cool horror film/murder mystery with many twists and turns.  English subs.  From 35mm.
