(1947) Marcel Herrand, Simone Signoret, Alexandre Rignault, Paul Amiot, André Le Gall, Yves Deniaud, A big thumbs up for this great film! It’s filled with a ton of cool stuff—death rays, mad scientists, cool lab scenes, creepy underground catacombs, mysterious mansions, and more. Fantomas, long thought to be dead, returns to terrorize Paris, demanding a billion francs from the government. If his deadline is not met, he promises to slaughter millions of Parisians. His big van is equipped with one of his death ray machines, with which he occasionally zaps his victims! He’s also out to kill his daughter’s news-paper reporter fiancé. Fantomas is kind of like a French version of Dr. Mabuse. This crime-horror classic has never been available in great quality with English subtitles until now. Wow. 35mm.
