THE DEVILMAN STORY (1967, Anamorphic) Guy Madison, Luisa Baratto, Diana Lorys, Bill Vanders. Madison is a journalist searching for a kidnapped brain surgeon. His search takes him to a secret lab run by the silver-masked villain, Devilman, who intends to rule the world by using a new brain-transplanting procedure that will make him all-powerful. The horror escalates when the missing surgeon, now under zombie-like control, is instructed to try the new procedure on his own daughter, who—along with Madison—have been captured. This movie is filled with pop-gun sci-fi and James Bondish situations, yet it’s all kind of fun. Great color, 35mm.
FLASHMAN (1967, Anamorphic) Paul Stevens, Claudie Lange, John Heston, Anne Williams. Flashman is so campy it nearly defies description. Flashman is actually a spoiled British Royal who wears one of the cheapest looking “superhero” getups ever created. His mask appears to be a ski mask with pieces of gray duct tape attached to it. There are lots of villains lurking about, including a Mafiosi guy who kills a scientist for his invisibility formula, then robs banks while invisible. There’s also a bevy of gorgeous babes who have an elaborate counterfeiting scheme. There’s a moment involving a hand grenade that will make you howl. Cool. Nice color, 35mm.
