THE DEVIL’S AGENT (1961, Anamorphic) Peter Van Eyck, Christopher Lee, Macdonald Carey, Marianne Koch. Former wartime Intel officer Van Eyck runs into his old pal, Lee, who takes him to his mansion for a fishing excursion. However, when Lee's sister asks him to transport a packet to a contact in Germany, the befuddled Peter is thrown into a circle of spy games. He then crisscrosses Europe to outwit his adversaries, all the while falling for a beautiful young escapee. Soon US agents become involved and before long his situation is as hopeless as it is complicated. A jolting ending. This is a cool movie, taut and engaging in places with fine performances and some very nice cinematic moments. From 35mm.
THE FACE OF THE FROG (1959, Anamorphic) Carl Lange, Joachim Fuchsberger, Siegfried Lowitz, Eddi Arent. An American detective becomes involved in a series of ghastly crimes. The only clue is the mysterious seal of the White Frog. Some of the murder sequences in this film are very grim for the time. The Frog's weird mask is cool! Takes place in London's mysterious SoHo district. First in a long running series of German made Edgar Wallace films. From a very nice 35mm original print.
