Romans—who was a scientist of no mean order—not only contributed a tremendous interplanetarian story to the annals of science fiction, but also added enormously (for the time) to future speculations on astronomy and space flight in general. When this story was first published in 1929, it contained entirely new scientific innovations, some of which later came to real life fruition (although not in the way the innovated author imagined). From Magnetic coils sling-shooting rockets into space, to a compulsion system that propelled a spacecraft once it reached such fantastic heights, Romans showed us how to put a man on the moon a whole 40 years before the launch of Apollo 11 made that dream a reality.
