(1961) Johnny Cash, Cay Forester, Donald Woods, Ronnie Howard, Pamela Mason. Cash plays a vile, hardboiled hood, hired to hold a bank president’s wife (Forester) hostage while the bank is being robbed. Held at gunpoint in her own home, she is put through hell by Cash, who gives an excellent yet disturbing portrayal as a cold-blooded killer. The scene where he machine guns a policeman is ghastly and the expression on Johnny’s face is demonic. Brrr… Complicating matters further is the fact that the bank president (Woods) has been planning on leaving his wife for another woman. It’s the perfect chance for him to free himself while someone else does the dirty work for him. Will he fall to this temptation or save his wife? This is a gripping low budget gem, available in anamorphic widescreen for the first time. From 35mm.
