HORROR MANIACS (1948, aka THE GREED OF WILLIAM HART) Tod Slaughter, Henry Oscar, Jenny Lynn, Aubrey Woods. Tod's up to his maniacal tricks again in this grisly bodysnatching tale. Tod makes money selling corpses to a med- school. When demand grows, he decides to murder people for their bodies. Slaughter is delightfully wicked and really gets his just comeuppance at the end of the film! Inspired by the true-life Burke and Hare events. Transferred from a beautiful 35mm original print.
THE MONKEY’S PAW (1948) Milton Rosmer, Megs Jenkins, Michael Harvey, Eric Micklewood, Brenda Hogan. This engrossing British chiller is based on the classic horror tale by W.W. Jacobs. A man comes into possession of a withered, but magical paw of a dead monkey. From this paw he is bestowed three wishes. On his first wish, the man wishes to be debt-free. The wish is granted, but at the cost of his son’s life. On the next wish, the man’s wife wishes for her son to be returned to life—but the price is truly horrible. A wonderful climax. From 16mm.
