(1956, Updated 4-18-25) Lilli Palmer, Curt Jurgens, Winnie Markus, Adelheid Seeck, Hans Nielsen. Palmer was 42 and drop dead gorgeous when she made this film. Her feminine appeal is electric—and it’s supposed to be. She lures in struggling composer Jurgens into a life completely dominated by her—everything he does, everyone he knows, is closely watched over by her. She is one wicked dame—shades of Play Misty for Me. But Jurgens, after meeting a new secretary who falls head over heels for him, finally breaks away. What happens? Palmer ends up deader than a doornail from an apparent suicide. But is it suicide…or murder? Jurgens ends up in jail, There’s a great courtroom sequence at the end of this extremely well made film. NOTE: This special two-disc edition contains both the widescreen foreign language edition with English subtitles (from a gorgeous 35mm print) and the full-screen English language American TV syndication version (from 16mm).
