AN ANGEL FOR SATAN (1966, WIDESCREEN, English Subtitles) Barbara Steele, Anthony Steffen, Claudio Gora, Mario Brega, Ursula Davis. Barb has a kind of dual role in this great horror film about a girl possessed by the spirit of a statue. The setting is 19th Century Italy. Near a small village, an old statue is recovered from a lake. Soon after, a series of mysterious crimes plague the village and its fearful citizens, who believe that the statue has brought forth an ancient curse. This was Barbara's last major Italian horror film, and it contains what is probably her best portrayal. We love her in films like BLACK SUNDAY and CASTLE OF BLOOD, but Barbara's acting throughout AN ANGEL FOR SATAN is top notch and almost mesmerizing during certain scenes. She REEKS with sensuality and it's easy to be swept away by her sexual charm as she gives the performance of her life. She is no Marilyn Monroe, but her unique beauty has a special place in screen history. Wow... Transferred from a gorgeous 35mm print.
THE TRYGON FACTOR (1966, WIDESCREEN) Stewart Granger, Susan Hampshire, Cathleen Nesbitt, Robert Morley. This Edgar Wallace thriller (though uncredited) features a sinister black-clad murderer in a scary mask. He lurks about a creepy old manor, shared by a venerable English family and a convent of nuns. Granger plays the Scotland Yard agent who investigates after the family is implicated in robbery, smuggling, and murder. Some nice tongue-in-cheek humor is thrown in and the overall production is most entertaining. This is the ENGLISH language version which hasn't been around very much. From a beautiful color widescreen 35mm print.
