(1940) Basil Radford, Naunton Wayne, Greta Gynt, Charles Oliver, Gordon McLeod. Radford and Wayne reprise their Lady Vanishes roles as Charters and Caldicott, a couple of well-seasoned yet naïve British world travelers. By the random act of ordering certain items off a restaurant menu, they find themselves the unwitting carriers of a phonograph record filled top secret Nazi info. Of course the Nazis and their various henchmen try everything possible to eliminate them. Yet somehow they manage (ala Inspector Clouseau) to avoid the Nazi hand of death at every turn. Complicating things throughout is the beautiful Greta Gynt, who is absolutely precious as a gorgeous double agent posing as a nightclub singer and dancer. The boys’ escapades take them all over Africa, the Middle East, and finally to a gothic European castle where they are finally captured and scheduled for execution. There’s a lot of good tongue-in-cheek excitement in this slick British comedy thriller. From 35mm.
