(1978) John Phillip Law, Florinda Bolkan, Guido Wieland, Siegfried Wischnewski, Claudia Rieschel. Law is an engineer entrusted with surveying properties in and around a small Austrian village to determine the future sight of a factory. Obviously this means casting many villagers off their land. Unfortunately, he doesn’t know that the village is protected by a warlock and his witch daughter (Bokan), who make things more than a little unpleasant for him with their supernatural powers. Things get complicated when Bolkan falls in love with Law. There are some cool plot twists in this well-made Euro-chiller and there are any number of latently horrific scenes. The love triangle between Law, Bokan, and Claudia Rieschell is smartly executed and there’s a great twist at the climax involving the transference of supernatural powers. Bolkan looks like she could be Julia Roberts’ sister. Rated R for nudity and some violence. English subtitles. Color, widescreen, 35mm.
