THE AMAZING WORLD OF GHOSTS (1978) Narr. by Sid Paul. This schlockumentary explores haunted houses, ghosts, UFOs, etc. The producers obviously loved the UFO fad because they try to tie in aliens, mysterious rays, and other planets to Earth-bound ghosts. “Are ghosts the living dead from space?” In other scenes they take benign footage (like earthquake clips) and fashion sinister narration to create the facade of something supernatural. Yet for all its schlockiness, there’s still some cool stuff: spectral hounds, haunted houses, etc. Great color, 16mm.
UFO TARGET EARTH (1974) Nick Pakias, Cynthia Cline, LaVerne Light, Phil Erickson. This ‘70s oddity is about an electronics pro who spends his time searching for evidence of space aliens. He soon picks up eerie signals he believes are emanating from an alien spaceship. Things get tense when he discovers the signals are coming from a lake near town! The climactic scene involving a skull is schlocky, but cool. Color, 16mm.
