DEATH BY INVITATION—Anamorphic Widescreen Edition (1971) Shelby Leverington, Aaron Phillips, Norman Parker, Bruce Brentlinger, Denver John Collins. This film opens in olden times with a young woman being dragged into a grimy building and condemned as a witch. She is later killed by the villagers. Leverington plays both the witch from the past and a beautiful young gal from present day who is possessed by her dead relative’s spirit. She plans to gain revenge against the ancestors of those who defiled and murdered her long-dead relative. This isn’t the greatest horror film ever made, but it’s far better than some of its critical reviews. The scene where Leverington mesmerizes Collins and has her “way” with him is very memorable, with a great bit of acting by Leverington. Atmospheric and chilling with a well done opening titles sequence. Widescreen, Nice Color, 35mm.
