THE THIRD VISITOR (1951) Sonia Dresdel, Guy Middleton, Hubert Gregg, Colin Gordon, Karel Stepanek, Eleanor Summerfield. Stepanek plays a snobbish gent living in the English countryside who is visited by various people, including a tough gangster and a mysterious female, all in the black of the night. The next morning, Stepanek’s nearly unrecognizable body (bludgeoned horribly in the face) is found by the cops, headed by a persistent British inspector, well-played by Middleton. He’s soon questioning a plethora of suspicious characters, including the Gayle Sondergaardish Dresdel, who leads the pack in snappy, yet subtle dialogue. In the climactic scene, the killer (we won’t mention who) has some bravura dialogue that rises to Bela Lugosian levels. Cool… Much of the action takes place in a dark old house with a secret room. Great fun! 16mm.
