(1949) Lloyd Bridges, Barbara Payton, John Hoyt, James Todd, Russ Conway. This is probably the best video copy of this film-noir thriller on the market today. It was transferred from a beautiful 16mm original print. This is a dark, gritty, sometimes sleazy little B-film. Most of it takes place during a depressing, somewhat creepy night in a big city. Bridges is great as a prison convict given a chance to redeem himself on the outside by helping to break up a counterfeiting ring. He runs into Barbara, whom he becomes romantically tangled with. Barbara was a better actress at times than she was given credit for. This film shows her at her best. The movie has all kinds of great stuff: intrigue, double-crosses, criminal activies, confused identities, etc. The entire cast is great in this forgotten gem. 16mm.
