(1967, Upgraded 4/16/21) Yeong-il Oh, Jeong-im Nam, Cho Kyoung-min, Kwang Hoo Lee, Moon Kang. A scientific experiment seemingly sets off a series of earthquakes that ravage central Korea. However, it turns out that they’re being caused by Yongary, whom the experiment awakened. Yongary just happens to be a gigantic, gasoline-consuming reptilian monster. Cool. Soon, with the logic of all Asian big-monster movies, he goes crushing his way through a large metropolitan are, in this case Korea’s capital city of Seoul. This is mindless schlock with hokey special effects, but in its own low budget way it’s kind of fun. It looks just like its Japanese monster movie cousins. In fact some of the folks from Daiei studios helped in the production. Nice color, from a great widescreen 35mm print.
