(1969) Adrienne Larussa, Rossano Brazi, Nino Castelnuovo, Idelma Carlo, Paola Pitagora. This is a wonderful, almost forgotten giallo classic. Larussa (Beatrice Cenci) is tops as a gorgeous, wealthy young heiress who is tricked by her lover (a really slimy no-good so and so) into having sex inside a seedy brothel. After she is caught in a police raid (as arranged by her lover for purposes of blackmail) she’s tossed into a mental institution by her family so that all concerned can be spared the “scandal.” However, when she finally gets out of the booby-hatch—look out! Acting like a crazy psycho, she seeks revenge against everyone from her worthless lover to her disloyal father. Stuck somewhere between being a psycho-horror film and a crime film, we give this thoroughly enjoyable Euro-giallo-chiller a very high recommendation. Great color, from a nice 16mm print.
