UNDER WESTERN STARS (1938, Republic, UNCUT) Roy Rogers, Smiley Burnette, Carol Hughes, Earl Dwire. This first Rogers film is a cowboy classic. Roy comes to the aid of drought-stricken farmers by helping them illegally obtain water. The farmer’s rally around him and induce him to run for Congress so he can lobby for them. A slick Republic production with great production values, a literate script, fine acting, and the usual memorable Rogers songs. 16mm.
CARSON CITY KID (1940, Republic) Roy Rogers, Bob Steele, Noah Beery, Jr., Gabby Hayes. One of the slickest Republic westerns you'll ever see, plays like an "A" western. Roy plays a mysterious road agent tracking down his brother’s killer. Beery plays the gullible drifter who gets hoodwinked in a poker game. Best of all though, is Steele in a rare, top-of-the-line portrayal as a slick, shrewd, ruthless villain. This one's a keeper. Highly recommended. From 16mm.
SUNSET SERENADE (1942, Republic, UNCUT, From 35mm) Roy Rogers, Gabby Hayes, Helen Parrish, Onslow Stevens. A tiny infant boy inherits a huge ranch. Shifty characters try to get their hands on the property. Roy faces danger trying to protect the boy’s property. One scene has Roy rescuing a man in a narrow canyon when a nearby dam is dynamited! A monstrous wall of water rushes down on top of them.
MY PAL TRIGGER (1946, Republic, UNCUT) Roy Rogers, Gabby Hayes, Dale Evans, Jack Holt. Considered by Roy to be his finest western. Roy attempts to mate his mare with Gabby's stallion and winds up accused of killing the stallion when Holt (who's been trying to do the same thing) accidentally kills the horse. The mare's foal grows up to be Trigger, who later helps Roy clear his name and save Gabby's ranch. They don't make ‘em any better than this. A MUST. 16mm.
