THE TRUSTED OUTLAW (1937, Republic) Bob Steele, Joan Barclay, Earl Dwyer, Lois January. B westerns don't get much better. Bob’s the last of an infamous outlaw family. He's ambushed by a gunman, but manages to outdraw him. Later, he learns his gal is in love with another man and actually plotted to have the gunman kill him! Brokenhearted, Bob takes a perilous job carrying a payroll through a narrow mountain pass that is swarming with bandits. Recommended.
BORDER PHANTOM (1937, Republic) Bob Steele, Harley Wood, Don Barclay, Karl Hackett. A superb "forgotten horrors" western. A scientist is murdered near the Mexican border. His niece is also kidnapped. She is later rescued by two cowboys, only to be blamed for the murder. Much of the action is centered around a sinister old hacienda complete with secret passage ways, hidden rooms, and mysterious chinamen lurking about the premises. What is the strange secret behind its walls? 16mm.
WILD HORSE VALLEY (1940, Metropolitan) Bob Steele, Phyllis Adair, Buzz Barton. A daring horse thief lures away Bob's beautiful Arabian stallion. It runs wild and lures other horses off the range into Wild Horse Valley where the bad guys await. Bob finds peril as he tries to recapture his stallion. 16mm.
BILLY THE KID’S FIGHTING PALS (1941, PRC) Bob Steele, Charlie King, Al St. John. Bob rides into a crime-ridden town posing as a lawdog. He takes over the local paper and discovers that smugglers have dug a huge tunnel from town, all the way to the Mexican border! All hell breaks loose then. Bob and Charlie have one of their best fist fights. This above average script has solid dialogue and truly funny moments. We often cringe at PRC westerns. Not this one. Recommended for sure. 16mm.
