Armchair Fiction COUNTRY BEYOND THE CURVE, THE & EMPIRE

Armchair Fiction presents extra large editions of classic science fiction double novels with original illustrations.  Our first novel is “Country Beyond the Curve” by Walt Sheldon.  Every once in a while a true science fiction gem would get lost in the pages of the pulp magazines.  Such a gem was Walt Sheldon’s “The Country Beyond the Curve.”  It originally appeared in the October 1950 issue of Amazing Stories. It wasn’t even the lead story that issue; and as far as we can determine it has never been reprinted until now.  But “The Country Beyond the Curve” is a decidedly memorable short novel, filled with intriguing characters in fantastic situations.   It is a time travel thriller, an action-adventure tale, and a love story all rolled into one.  And from the moment that the lead character, Tony Faulkner, steps into a strange, unknown world, you’ll find yourself completely engrossed and often on the edge of your seat.  Not just a mindless sci-fi action yarn, “The Country Beyond the Curve” is a very special piece indeed…  The second novel is another gem, “Empire” by one of the best sci-fi writers of all time, Clifford D. Simak.  It’s a tale of greed and interplanetary conflict.  Spencer Chambers had plans of making the Solar System his own private empire—and he had the money to do it.  Chambers was a trillionaire industrialist who was the president of Interplanetary Power, an economic juggernaut and the biggest source of power throughout the inhabited spaceways.  And Chambers knew that he who controlled the sources of power, also controlled the destiny of the planets.  But there were other men who had different ideas.  They saw the great days of a Solar System that was free from monopolistic suppression and slavery; and when these men developed an alternative power source, the stage was set for a showdown the likes of which mankind had never witnessed before.  “Empire” is a classic science fiction novel, laced with gripping conflict and interplanetary intrigue.
