(1927-1933, Armchair Fiction) Here are two gems from Science fiction’s Golden Age,  The first is an early Edmond Hamilton classic, “The Time Raider,” which tells the story of two men, Wheeler and Lantin, who travel through time searching for their long-lost comrade who was kidnapped into the future by a strange, unknown being.  There is a plethora of pitched battle sequences, including an epic air battle involving hundreds of futuristic flying machines that chase each other through time.  It’s a terrific tale.  The second tale is Harl Vincent’s “Whisper of Death,” which begins with a phenomenon that takes place in many largest cities—a phenomenon that is characterized with a sudden, nearly total loss of sound. Helpless citizens go into a state of unchecked panic, unable to hear anything other than a slight fluttering noise—a sound not unlike the fleeting call of a low whisper.  A whisper of death…
