(1967) Jack Hawkins, Rachael Gurney, Mark Dignam, John Laurie, Henry Beltran. If you like creepy ghost stories, this British made-for-TV feature is a must. Hawkins’ returns home from a long trip to find his son traumatized by the haunting cries of a child he hears calling to him in the night from the strange ruins next to their estate. Hawkins and a local doctor investigate and discover the presence of a ghostly entity that apparently haunts the grounds. Soon the local minister is summoned to help bring the supernatural malady to an end. Hawkins is excellent and gives a portrayal much in the vein of a vintage Colin Clive performance. This fine gothic period piece chiller has extremely atmospheric visuals and music.
