(1962, Upgraded 12/28/20) Barbara Steele, Robert Flemyng, Montgomery Glenn, Harriet Medin, Maria Teresa Vianello. A wonderful Euro-chiller. This special 2-disc, widescreen edition contains both the 78-minute American theatrical edition (Horrible/Hichcock) and its longer, 84-minute British counterpart, The Terror of Dr. Hichcock, which has five to six more minutes of footage and is edited slightly different. Both editions are in widescreen. This film is truly one of the best Italian horror films of the 1960s, wonderfully atmospheric with a terrific music score. Barbara's the wife of a demented, necrophiliac physician who’s enthralled by the corpses of beautiful women and haunted by the spectre of his first wife, who died of a drug overdose. The climatic scenes of Barbara running down a long tunnel way, only to encounter a hangman's noose, and then Flemyng laughing and leering over her helpless body are not easy to forget. Directed with distinctive flair by Riccardo Freda. Chilling and sometimes perverse—an unforgettable film. Beautiful color and widescreen, from 35mm. PLEASE NOTE: the opening titles on Terror of Dr. Hichcock are in full screen; however the rest of the film is in full anamorphic widescreen.
