Poverty Row Collections VICTORY PICTURES, Vol. 3

Here are four cool Poverty Row movies on two discs, all from Sam Katzman's Victory Pictures:

A FACE IN THE FOG (1936) Lloyd Hughes, June Collyer, Lawrence Gray, Al St. John.  Murder abounds in this engaging back stage chiller.  A mad hunchback, who's suspected of having committed a number of the grisly murders, is nowhere to be found!  Definitely cheap, but fun.

PHANTOM OF THE RANGE (1936) Tom Tyler, Beth Marion, Charlie King.  A miserly old rancher passes away.  Local folks stay away from his property though when a spectral rider is seen riding the grounds in the black of the night.  Tom comes in to figure things out, including finding the treasure of Tower Rock, which can only be found under the light of the full moon.  A likable B western chiller.  Marion is positively stunning.  Included in the Forgotten Horrors book.

BLAKE OF SCOTLAND YARD (1937) Ralph Byrd, Joan Barclay, Lloyd Hughes.  A madman has stolen an uncompleted death ray device.  Will he complete it before Blake can stop him?  For all its cheapness, the film is kind of fun, with Byrd in another Dick Tracy-type role.  Produced by that master of poverty row, Sam Katzman.

SKY RACKET (1937) Herman Brix, Joan Barclay, Jack Mulhall.  A crime thriller with sci-fi elements.  An undercover agent is out to capture a gang of crooks who use a death ray to blow airplanes to smithereens.  Similar to AIR HAWKS, SKY BANDITS, and GHOST PATROL.  Like most of Katzman's fodder...cheap, but fun!  Watch out for the death ray!
