1. HOLD ‘ER COWBOY (1928) Bobby Vernon, Frances Lee, Bill Blaisdell, Andy Clyde. This is a very FUNNY one-reel comedy. Bobby plays a cowboy on the way to an engagement party where his presence—after he arrives—is most unwelcome. To Bobby’s chagrin, the engaged girl is about to marry a scoundrel. The final scene is hilarious. Vernon is a very underrated silent comic star. 2. THE WIDE OPEN SPACES (1931) Ned Sparks, Antonio Moreno, Dorothy Sebastian, Frank McHugh, Bill Farnum. This is an unusual western short with Sparks inside a saloon, dressed in black an over-playing to the hilt. This rarity was produced by the Masquers’ Comedy Club of Los Angeles. 3. CORRALLING A SCHOOLMARM (1940) Ray Whitley, Virginia Vale, Lee “Lasses” White. In this humorous RKO musical western short, Ray does his best to try and fix up a rich local rancher (and school board president) with a good-looking young schoolmarm in exchange for building a new school house. What Ray doesn’t know is that the schoolmarm has the hots for him, not the rancher! Good fun and great songs.. 16mm.
