(1936, Reliable) Gene Autry, Smiley Burnette, Frances Grant, Donald Kirke Earl Hodgins. Generally considered one of Gene’s best early Republics. Gene is knocked out by an outlaw, who switches clothes and throws him from a train. The scene where Gene walks through town in the outlaw’s duds is priceless. Meanwhile the outlaw, posing as Gene, commits murder, which Gene of course is blamed for! Great script and performances. Wow. From 16mm.
