Westerns WHISPERING SKULL, THE*

(1944, PRC) Tex Ritter, Dave O'Brien, Guy Wilkerson, Denny Burke, Henry Hall. What a surprise. This is almost more of a cheap PRC horror film than a cheap PRC western. There's a mad killer on the loose, terrorizing the region in a grotesque leather mask with a weird skull face. He is seen riding through the darkened countryside atop a mysterious horse that makes no sound and leaves no trail. Cool! Tex and Dave try to sort out the mysterious goings-on and find out who the fiend really is. Lots of dark and creepy scenes with an abundance of that good old cheap PRC dark and creepy horror music. Bound to be in a future edition of the Forgotten Horrors books. Cheap but fun. From 16mm.
